Sixth grade co-ed PE class

Class Announcements
PE Assessment
All students are wearing pedometers which measure the number of steps they take in class each day. The goal is 1200 after warmups and 2000 by the end of class. Ideally, if they are wearing a pedometer all day, the goal is 10,000 steps a day.
PE Unit
Our current PE unit is Volleyball. We are reviewing the skills of serving(under or over hand), bump pass and set pass before skill testing and game play.
Health Class week
The next week of Health will begin 3/1/10 and will be taught by Ms. Smith. She will have their health folders in which they will keep their work.
Assessment tool
My 8th grade classes  wear a pedometer during class. A pedometer measures the number of steps that an individual takes. Thus the more active you are, the more steps that will show up on the device(it clips onto the waistband of their PE shorts and/or sweatpants). It lets the student just how much moving they are actually doing or not doing in some cases. The goal each period is a minimum of 1200 steps, more steps(which means more active) then a better daily grade.
Fitness testing
We are finishing our final round of fitness testing for the year. The results will be sent to the State.

Our next unit is a track and field unit.
Fitness
We are continuing to work on our fitness logs at the beginning of class. The next log is due 5/11.  Please encourage your child to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity in addition to what they receive in PE class, as many days a week as possible.
Most students are doing a good job of keeping up.

We are using pedometers to measure their steps during class as part of their daily assessment. The goal is 1200 steps by the time warmups are over and 1800 steps by the end of class.
